Durgasagar was excavated in 1780 by Raja Jayanarayan, the local Zamindar of Chandradwip, to alleviate a severe water shortage in the region. He named the lake after his mother, Rani Durgabati. Getting there
From Dhaka, take a launch (ferry) from Sadarghat to Barisal, which is the most scenic and comfortable route. Alternatively, buses run regularly from Gabtoli or Sayedabad. Once in Barisal city, Durgasagar is located in Babuganj Upazila, approximately 11 kilometers away.
