Peda Ting Ting

Peda Ting Ting is a secluded island retreat nestled within the vast expanse of Kaptai Lake in Rangamati. Accessible only by boat, this destination offers a serene escape characterized by lush greenery, bamboo-crafted cottages, and the gentle rhythmic sounds of the surrounding emerald waters. The island is renowned for its culinary offerings, particularly its traditional indigenous cuisine prepared by the local Chakma community. The island of Peda Ting Ting emerged as a destination following the creation of Kaptai Lake in the 1960s, a result of the construction of the Kaptai Dam on the Karnaphuli River. While the lake itself flooded much of the original valley, it created a unique archipelago of hills that became isolated islands. Culturally, the area is the ancestral heartland of the Chakma people, the largest ethnic group in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. The name 'Peda Ting Ting' is derived from a local Chakma dialect, reportedly translating to 'Full Stomach,' a testament to the island's reputation for hospitality and plentiful food.
